MAN Ferrostaal enables the power of the sun to be utilized in large solar thermal power plants. For electricity, cooling energy and process heat. To achieve this, we work hand-in-hand with leading technology partners.
Those regions suitable for operating solar thermal power plants are located along the earth's sunbelt. At the same time, they comprise traditional core markets for MAN Ferrostaal where we have a dense distribution network active.
Our partner, Solar Millennium AG, provides the technology for parabolic trough power plants. It is the first company to develop these power plants, which are under construction at the moment, in South-Europe . In a joint venture between our two companies entitled MAN Solar Millennium, we plan to establish ourselves as the leading supplier in the world. We bundle our competences as a technology leader, project developer, power station engineering company and general contractor with international financing power for major solar-thermic power station projects. Parabolic trough power plants currently form the most economic technology available for utilizing solar energy.
In collaboration with our technology partner, Solar Power Group GmbH, we are aiming at erecting major power plants using Fresnel technology from 2008. When it comes to manufacture and operation, this technology is highly attractive economically. SPG has already successfully completed two research and development projects and a demonstration power station has been in operation in AlmerÃa, Spain, since July 2007.
Our partner, SOLITEM GmbH, is a young company that develops power supply systems for air conditioning in buildings using solar-powered absorption chillers. Several plants are operating on a commercial basis in Turkey. Further plants are currently being constructed or planned in Morocco, Jordan, Germany, Portugal and Turkey. At present, no comparable or commercially feasible technology
is available on the market.
